The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the much-visited House, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
