a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
