He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
