Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
