The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
