He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
