The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
