And when thy Lord called to Moses, 'Go to the people of the evildoers, 10 the nation of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Me' 11 Moses replied, "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, 12 and my chest will become constricted and my tongue will not be loosed (in my speech), therefore, send to Aaron. 13 And they have a crime against me, therefore I fear that they may slay me. 14 He said: by no means. So go ye twain with Our signs; verily We shall be with you listening. 15 Go to Pharaoh, both of you, and say, 'We are messengers from the Lord of the Worlds: 16 Send the Israelites with us". 17 (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us, 18 Yet you committed the deed you did, surely you are one of the ingrates." 19 He said: I did it then when I was mistaken. 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. But [since] then my Sustainer has endowed me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and has made me one of [His] message-bearers. 21 "And this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?" 23 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe' 24 Said he to those about him, 'Do you not hear?' 25 He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers. 26 Said he, 'Surely your Messenger who was sent to you is possessed!' 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Said [Pharaoh]: "Indeed, if thou choose to worship any deity other than me, I shall most certainly throw thee into prison! 29 He said: What! even if I bring to you something manifest? 30 (Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!" 31 (No sooner had he said this than) Moses threw down his rod and behold, it was a veritable serpent, 32 And he drew forth his hand, thereupon it shone bright before the beholders. 33
