And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no caring friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
