The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. (5) وقف المجاذبة أو المعانقة حيث يجب الوقف في أي من موضعين قريبين ولكن ليس كلاهما، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة تظهر في أحد الموقعين باحتمال النصف للنصف.
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
