The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
