We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
