[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
