The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
