The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 It is the shining star -- 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 Consider the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 and is no idle tale. 14 Verily they are plotting a plot. 15 And I (too) am planning a plan. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
