(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
