The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
