The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those that pray 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
