Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
