The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
