He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
