Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
