The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Greeks have been vanquished 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 The promise of God! God fails not His promise, but most men do not know it. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
