Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 The night as it advances, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Join My servants. 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
