The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
