We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 Shall We make those who believe and work righteous works like unto the corrupters in the earth; or shall We make the God-fearing like unto the wicked! 28 This is a blessed Book which We sent down to you [Muhammad], for people to ponder over its messages, and for those with understanding to take heed. 29 And We vouchsafed unto Da'ud Sulaiman. How excellent a bondman! verily he was oft-returning. 30 Recall what time there were presented unto him, at eventide, coursers swift-footed. 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 "Bring them back to me!" -- [he said] and began to stroke their legs and their necks. 33 We tried Solomon by placing upon his throne a [lifeless] body; and thereupon he turned towards Us]. 34 He said: my Lord! forgive me, and bestow on me a dominion which no one may obtain beside me: verily Thou! Thou art the Bestower. 35 So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed, 36 As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver,- 37 And others bound in fetters. 38 “This is Our bestowal – you may therefore bestow favours or withhold them – you will not be questioned.” 39 And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. 40
