The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
