The dwellers of the Thicket belied their Messengers. 176 Recall, when Shuayb said to them: "Have you no fear? 177 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 178 So fear Allah and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no hire therefor; and my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). 181 and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance, 182 and diminish not the goods of the people, and do not mischief in the earth, working corruption. 183 Fear Him who created you and those who have gone before you." 184 They said: "You are only one of those bewitched! 185 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar! 186 So cause thou a fragment of the heaven to fall upon us, if thou art of the truth-tellers. 187 Answered [Shu'ayb]: "My Sustainer knows fully well what you are doing." 188 But they denied him, and We seized them with the torment of the Day of Shadowing (when the cloud had rained down fire). It was indeed the torment of a terrible day! 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
