The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
