By no means! By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 "And used to deny the Day of Justice." 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
