The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And who softly release the soul. (Of the believer) 2 by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 hearts will be throbbing, 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 even after we have turned into decayed bones?" 11 They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 But it shall be only a single scare, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself? 18 "'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 Then turned he away in haste, 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 And he said: I am your Lord, most high. 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). 26
