The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
