The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion regarding him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
