Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
