The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
