The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
