Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
