Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
