Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
