The unbelieving assembly of his nation, who belied the encounter of the Everlasting Life, and on whom We had bestowed ease in this life, said: 'This is but a human like yourselves; he eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a miracle and settled them on a high land, quite secure and watered by a spring. 50
