The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
