The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
