The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
