The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
