And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
