Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
