And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 Recall (the time) when We settled you in the land as the heirs of the tribe of Ad and how you established mansions in the plains and carved homes out of the mountains. Give thanks to God for His favors and do not commit evil in the land." 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 Those who were arrogant said: "Verily, we disbelieve in that which you believe in." 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel, disdainfuliy disobeyed the commandment of their Lord, and said: 'O Salih! Bring upon us the scourge with which you threatened us if you are truly a Messenger [of Allah].' 77 So the earthquake overwhelmed them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling places. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And We sent Lot, who said to his people: "Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before? 80 You approach men lustfully instead of women. Truly, you are a nation who exceed (in sin)' 81 And his people had no answer except to say, “Turn them out of your dwellings; these are people who wish purity!” 82 We saved him and all his family, except his wife, who was made to remain, 83 And We rained a rain upon them. See now the nature of the consequence of evil-doers! 84
