Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
