۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
