AND [likewise,] indeed, We sent unto [the tribe of] Thamud their brother Salih [with this message]: "Worship God alone!" and behold, they were [split into] two factions contending with one another. 45 He said, “O my people, why do you hasten upon the evil before the good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah? Perhaps there may be mercy upon you.” 46 They said, "We have an ill omen about you and your followers." Salih replied, God has made your ill fortune await you. You are a people on trial." 47 And there were nine of a group in the city, who spread corruption in the land and rectified not. 48 They said: "Let us swear by God that we will attack Saleh and his family at night, and later tell his heirs: 'We did not see his family destroyed, and we speak the truth.'" 49 And so they devised an evil scheme; but We devised a subtle scheme (of Our own), and they perceived it not. 50 See, then, what the consequences of their plan were. We destroyed them and their people utterly, all together. 51 So yonder are their houses overturned, for they did wrong. Verily, herein is a sign unto a people who know. 52 And We delivered those who believed and were wont to avoid disobeying (Allah). 53 And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality while you are seeing? 54 Do you approach men lustfully instead of women! No, you are an ignorant nation' 55 ۞ But the answer of his folk was naught save that they said: Expel the household of Lot from your township, for they (forsooth) are folk who would keep clean! 56 Then We delivered him and his household save his wife: We destined her to be of the lingerers. 57 And We showered a rain upon them; so what a wretched rain for those who were warned! 58
